The B.C. Sustainable Energy Association
brings together environmentalists, professionals and the general public in eight regional chapters across the province. The BCSEA Web site offers a wealth of information about climate change, conservation and renewable energy.

 

Citizens For Renewable Energy is an Ontario-based organization that promotes solar, wind and small hydro projects for residential, agricultural and small industrial applications. The CFRE Web site provides valuable information about green energy issues, especially practical information for small projects.

 

Clean Power Now is a Massachusetts-based citizens’ group with 10,000 members. It promotes renewable energy through education and advocacy work, and actively supports an offshore wind farm proposed for Nantucket Sound. CPN produced an interesting half-hour film about wind power in Denmark. The CPN Web site offers updates on the Nantucket Sound proposal and a great deal of info about wind energy, among other renewables.

 

With over 85 member organizations from industry, government and universities, the Ocean Renewable Energy Group promotes wave and tidal power in Canada. OREG holds symposiums, forums and public meetings across Canada and has established a code of practice for sustainable development. Among other information the OREG Web site includes videos and illustrated descriptions of different approaches to generating electricity from the sea.

 

Power Up Canada fights global warming by encouraging the public to lobby governments and opposition parties for a stronger, greener economy. Power Up’s Web site offers tips on how to contact politicians, as well as some alarming stats on how poorly Canada compares to other countries in sustainability.

 

The Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association lobbies the government, educates the public and helps members with design, construction or purchase decisions regarding electric cars, bikes and boats. VEVA holds monthly meetings from September to July that are open to the public, as well as an annual show of electric vehicles. VEVA’s Web site provides more info about the group, its public events and recent developments in this emerging sector.
