B.C. Citizens for Green Energy member appointed to Citizens’ Conservation Council
on Climate Action

Kelowna resident Robert Ruf will help advise the province
on global warming awareness and education

Robert Ruf, a member of the B.C. Citizens for Green Energy steering committee, has been appointed to the Citizens’ Conservation Council on Climate Action for the Thompson-Okanagan region.

The nine-person council is one of seven regional groups appointed by the provincial government. They’ll advise the province on two aspects of global warming: how to increase awareness in their region and how to educate the public about what we can do.

Robert lives in Kelowna with his wife and baby son. A registrar at Okanagan College, Robert’s awareness of green energy began in the early 1980s when he worked at a Canada Agriculture research station which housed an early wind turbine. His interest in sustainability and energy policy grew during MBA studies in science and technology at Queen’s University. “Discussion and projects on subjects ranging from bio-fuels, hybrid cars, recycling and international energy policy fueled my interest,” Robert says.

“With the birth of our son Jeremy early this year, our environment’s future health has become even more important to me,” Robert adds. “I believe that a transition to green energy is not only inevitable for the health of our planet, but that this transition will bring about new opportunities in business and employment.”
